The Cost of Finishing
Starting is free. Finishing is the part nobody warns you about — and the part that decides whether the work was real.
There is a particular kind of fatigue that arrives somewhere around the 80% mark. The interesting decisions are behind you. What remains is a queue of small, unglamorous choices: the empty state, the error copy, the loading skeleton, the migration script, the privacy policy.
I used to think of this stretch as the boring part. It is not boring. It is the most honest part. Anyone can write a headline. Finishing is what separates a sketch from a thing that exists in the world.
Unplanned Ambition is, in some sense, a company organised around that conviction. We pick projects we are willing to drag across the last 20%. The rest stay where they belong: as notes.
